Weeks 17 & 18 - Aberdeenshire Trades Fortnight

Back from sunny Cyprus ... nothing happening onsite due to Aberdeenshire trades fortnight!

Week 16 - A little bit of pointing ...

Hello,

Very little visible structural progress happened this week leading up to the holidays.  That said, the pain staking job of chiseling out all the old pointing is pretty much complete inside and outside in readiness for new lime pointing in the near future.  The stonework looks amazing, especially in certain areas such as the west gable where the stone colour and patterns are basically a work of +150 year old art!  The stonework inside the mill, which is more random than external, looks pretty good also.

Inside Mill - wall be left exposed and repointed

Note curve in the wall - this is where mill gearing used to rotate

Inside Mill, above where gearing used to be - this probably supported pulleys?
Wood too rotten to keep so we will replicate with Douglas Fir for a feature

Week 15 - More walls up ...

Hello bloggers,

This week saw the additional wall panels go up for the new extension.  Really starting to take shape!

All the walls up in the main living space now - gaps are either doors or windows

A view from inside - the far corner will be sliding doors opening to deck; space on left facing the river will be a great full size window
