Hi everyone,
Who would have thought it, we've slogged through one year of building and blogging .... scary, but rewarding when we look back at some of the earlier blogs! Hopefully the end is in sight now as we're knackered juggling this project amongst a busy family and working life!!
This week actually saw a massive milestone being achieved .... yes, the installation and commissioning of our biomass boiler and solar panels - yippee, all done with just one week to spare on our RHPP Energy Trust voucher applications! Everything is very snug in the plant room ... equipment just makes it and no more! The first heat source we every experienced on this site back in 2008 was a huge hay and wood fire as we started to clear out the Mill! Well, 4 years later the first domestic heat for our building is also being generated by burning wood in about the same spot, albeit with flames slightly less insane than the first attempt!!
The septic tank also turned up on site this week. It's a biggie and will finds its permanent home in the next week or so. The Hwam stove was also fitted into the fireplace, still needs to get the front glass on.
Carpets are now picked too! Just leaves wood floors now...
We also made the decision this week to go with an all glass balustrade around the decked area. We had planned to use the horizontal wire inserts you see at marinas and bars etc, however we've been told that building control no longer allow these to be used for fear of kids climbing. As such, we decided to bite the bullet and go with aluminium newel posts with glass spanning the posts. This will allow us to keep views down to the river from all angles on the deck and from inside the dining area.
Bye for now ...
